Day 1: (Morning) Business Start-up -
History of Business in the United States; Understanding the U.S. Business System; Discussion on starting your own business in Pennsylvania; Understanding types of business organization; Steps in creating and managing a corporation; Understanding Small Business; Entrepreneurs and Small Business; Reasons for Failure and Success of Small Business; and Why organizations are changing.

Day 1: (Afternoon) Business 101 –
Special issues in corporate ownership; Discussion on the various departmental functions, such as: Accounting; HR; Financial Manager and Risk Management; Interviewing and hiring the best employees; and Understanding the Labor & Management; and Understanding the U.S. Economic System.

Day 2: Business and Beyond –
Managing the Business Enterprise; Motivation and Leadership; Ethics and Responsibility in the workplace; Understanding Securities and Investments; Understanding the Global context of business; Evolution of Environment and Technology; eCommerce; Organizational Information Systems; How organizations use Telecommunications and Networks; Computer Research lecture and lecture on Operations Planning.

Day 3: The Business and Marketing Plans –
How to develop the Business Plan and create and complete a Statement of Purpose and the various sections included in the Business Plan. The Marketing Plan lecture will have a discussion on the Growth-Share Matrix and its impact on business thinking. You will learn to identify an organizations strengths and weaknesses by designing a SWOT Analysis. Review various terminology and the various sections included in the Marketing Plan.

COURSE STRUCTURE: The methods of teaching used in all three classes; Business Start-up/Business 101; Business and Beyond; and The Business and Marketing Plans include but are not limited to:
  • Lectures with appropriate student/faculty interaction
  • Cases of real situations to present course concepts
Seminar Structure: Refreshments will be served at the beginning of each seminar and at the breaks. As a thank you for completing the evaluation door prizes will be drawn from those completed entries after each class. The seminar will be a warm, friendly and professional discussion of the subject material. Interaction with peers and the instructor is encouraged.
